UFC 269 – Oliveira Vs Poirier

After what has been a year filled with exceptional UFC events, you could be forgiven for thinking things might wind down towards the end of the year.  But they haven’t! Another selection of quality match ups and exciting fights, showed why this is the fastest growing spectator sport.

The most recent event, held in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas was headlined by the much-anticipated lightweight title fight between Charles Oliviera and Dustin Poirier and was ably supported by the battle between womens bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes and the challenger Juliana Pena.

In the main event it was Oliviera who came out victorious, with an impressive title defence against Poirier. The fight was scheduled for 5 rounds, but Oliviera managed to pull off an impressive rear naked choke to win by submission in round 3.

Nunes meanwhile, seemed a little off her game and was rightfully defeated by the much improved Pena, again by a rear naked choke in Round 2

These results will give the UFC matchmakers something to think about as they look towards fights for the early part of 2022 – but we can absolutely expect to see a re-run of Nunes and Pena
