UFC 231 – Holloway Ortega – Results
UFC 231 took place in Toronto Canada and the night returned one new champion and one who is now regarded as the best featherweight champion of all time.
Max Holloway put on a dominant display against his previously undefeated challenger Brian Ortega, so much so that the attending doctor at octagon-side refused to let Ortega continue and the fight ended without round 4 even beginning. The question for many now is who will Holloway fight next? Those in line are Jose Aldo (who Holloway has already beaten in back to back fights), Frankie Edgar – beaten previously by Ortega and Aldo, Renato Moicano who has a history of missing weight and Chad Mendes has just one win in the last 3 years – although he is due to fight at UFC 232 on 30th December.
Valentina Shevchenko faced Johanna Jedrzejczyk for the vacant flyweight belt – and came out victorious following a unanimous decision, after 5 gruelling rounds, scoring 10:9 in each round. Shevchenko’s strength and positioning were obvious for all to see and although Jedrzejczyk didn’t fade as much as her opponent, she just did not have the time left to make it count. Having previously competed at Bantamweight, Shevchenko has shown that this is the perfect weight category for her, and it is difficult to see who will offer serious competition at this stage – her reign as champion could be a long one!
