Patrick Day Dies After Fight on Saturday!

Junior middleweight Patrick Day went up against Charles Conwell for the USBA super welterweight championship, however the bout didn’t go to plan after Charles Conwell knocked out Patrick Day in the 10th round, he was rushed to hospital and later pronounced died from brain injuries. He was rushed to the northwestern memorial hospital in Chicago but unfortunately died later on due to the injury. No one expected this to happen, but it was so unexpected.

“On behalf of Patrick’s family, team, and those closest to him, we are grateful for the prayers, expressions of support and outpouring of love for Pat that have been so obvious since his injury, He was a son, brother, and good friend to many. Pat’s kindness, positivity, and generosity of spirit made a lasting impression with everyone he met.” DiBella said in a statement.

Day was knocked out a few times throughout the fight by the unbeaten fighter Charles Conwell, the 2016 US Olympian. This was on the undercard of the Usyk v Witherspoon fight at the Wintrust Arena. Although Conwell was the clear winner and won the fight fair and square, but it’s a tragic end to the fight. Day was hit with a right hook and a left hook and as Day went down, he hit his head on the canvas that could have caused more injuries. Ruiz, the referee, ended the fight immediately stopped the bout without counting him at a minute 46 seconds. Day’s was immediately surrounded by medical personnel and was concussed. He underwent a brain surgery, but this never helped the situation.

Boxing is a dangerous sport that could end a lot of fighters careers and could end some lives, boxing will always be a dangerous sport and if anyone is wanting to fight in the future and wanting to fight at all, they will have to realise that boxing is dangerous and can lead to a lot of injuries and many more things from it. Remember this if your wanting to go professional. Boxing isn’t easy.
