20th March 2019, Khan went up against one of the best pound for pound boxers in his division, the undefeated Terrence Crawford. The WBA World Welterweight Championship was on the line. A lot of fans had an idea that Khan was going to lose this contest due to his KO rate in recent years. Before this fight Khan lost 4 fights and 3 of the 4 fights were lost via KO and Crawford has a 74% KO ratio, so a knockout was bound to happen at some stage in this contest! Amir Khan had one advantage over Crawford however… which was his speed and agility. Like he said in the match promo, “too fast”. This didn’t end up helping Khan in the long run, however.

Round 1 begun, with certain people hoping the fight goes longer than the first round. Khan looked on top until one nice left hook and right hook that knocked Khan down! 10-8 to Crawford in the first round with Khan potentially getting knocked out later in round 1, since there was still time left! Khan was trying his best throughout the fight to try and not get knocked down again, avoiding him and only going towards him if he needed to. Terrence Crawford is one of the best welterweight boxers in the world right now and could be like Floyd Mayweather if he keeps it up, with that said, he won the fight in round 6 via TKO, however this didn’t end the way many people expected it to end.
Near the end of round 6, Crawford aimed for the body but ended up hitting him below the belt, however only on his leg which shouldn’t have affected him at all, however he seemed to lie and say he was hit somewhere else. Khan’s trainer ended up stopping the fight because of this, which resorted in Crawford to win the bout via TKO. After the fight was finished, a lot of fans and even Crawford believed that Khan asked to stop the fight, that’s why his trainer told the referee he couldn’t continue! Khan has said this isn’t true at all and it was his trainer’s decision entirely. In the post-match interview with both the fighters Khan said that he was “peeing blood” after the low blow that Crawford did! Both fighters have been suspended by the New York State Athletic Commission due to this fight, but not for long. Only till the 27/04/19!
What’s next for Terrence Crawford, however? If Terrence Crawford is wanting to win all the titles in his division he must go through Errol Spence, who has been in 25 bouts and won all of them with 21 via KO, Shawn Porter, who has won 30 bouts, lost 2 and drawn once, and Manny Pacquiao. The fight that Crawford will most likely try to set up a fight with Errol Spence JR, since he called him out after the Amir Khan fight! Who will Khan fight next, however?
