Canelo Ordered to Defend Title!

Canelo Ordered to Defend Title!

Saturday, 4th May Saul “Canelo” Alvarez went up against Daniel Jacobs to try and unify the middleweight division, he did just that. 12 rounds of boxing and won the titles by unanimous decision! The new middleweight champion, however, doesn’t have enough time to enjoy his victory! Less than two weeks after he won the IBF middleweight championship, he was ordered to defend it against the number 1 contender for that title: Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Canelo will have to get a fight sorted out and planned before the 4th August 2019, otherwise he could lose his belt already! Only holding the title for two weeks, after months in training camp, he will have to go back to camp to fight someone or get one arranged before August!

The IBF Board wrote a letter to Canelo and his team that informed them that the mandatory title defence is due on or before august 4th! “Negotiations should commence immediately and be concluded by June 15, 2019,” the IBF wrote. So, this means that if the camps don’t make a deal by the deadline provided, the IBF will order a purse bid, which means whoever wins this bid gains full promotion control of the fight! Which could lead Alvarez to losing his title and not have a chance to fight with it!

Right now, no one knows what is going to happen, Alvarez doesn’t want to fight someone on or before August 4th, so he could end up losing his title or have someone promote the whole fight without a word from him! What will happen to Canelo? Will he lose his title already?
