On the 7th December 2019, Anthony Joshua went up against the former heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr for the WBO, WBA, IBO, IBF world heavyweight championship. The highly anticipated fight of the year has just went and could of been another upset, Andy Ruiz Jr said he was training hard for this fight and went for the knockout punch in training, as Anthony Joshua was training to avoid his left hook and avoid a lot of his punches after his failed match up in Madison Square Garden, however this match up was different than the first!
Anthony Joshua didn’t train to knockout Andy Ruiz Jr; he trained to try and win the fight via points decision and he succeeded! The fight ended with Joshua winning via unanimous points and to many people’s surprise, Joshua won the fight very convincingly! To one judge he won every round apart from 1 round, as the other two, they thought Joshua won every round apart from 2 rounds! Joshua has done what he said he was going to do and won the fight and now must fight again very soon, Ruiz wants a third fight and Joshua has agreed, however when the fight happens is a different story!
Andy Ruiz Jr lost and decided to make a lot of excuses for his loss and ended up saying that he was partying too much and training by himself too much, which if this is true, the championships went to his head, therefore he lost being far to confident for this fight and ended up losing the fight via points decision! This rematch lived up to the hype and now we have a new 2-time world champion… Anthony Joshua!
