A police officer is at serious risk of dismissal after he was caught swapping the barcode from 7p carrots onto a almost £10 box of donuts.

He attempted to get some Krispy Kream donuts for cheaper.

PC Simon Read, of Cambridgeshire Police, headed down to a Tesco Extra store in his full uniform and attempted to buy the donuts for 7p by printing a barcode for carrots using a self service checkout, and sticking it on the donut box.

He then attempted to paid for the items, and now, in the eyes of the police force, is accused of acting dishonestly and without integrity.

A police document says so that the incident is so ‘serious that dismissal would be justified.’

The report read:

  • Honesty & Integrity: “On February 10, 2020 you breached the Standard of Professional Behaviour concerning Honesty & Integrity because you acted dishonestly and without integrity by knowingly paying £0.07 for 12 donuts when you knew that you should have paid £9.95.”
  • Discreditable Conduct: “Your behaviour on February 10, 2020 brings discredit upon the police service and undermines confidence in it because a reasonable member of the public, aware of all the facts, would be justifiably appalled that a police officer had acted dishonestly and without integrity.”

The two day reading, which will ultimately decide his future in the Police force, is set to take place on the 25th of November this year.
