The Manhunt Revision notes (Poem)

The Manhunt – The title is a pun, she is searching for husband

Only then – Repeated throughout the poem- his recovery was slow – step by step

Trace – example of a gentle verb to show that his wife is gentle with him

Frozen River- Metaphor- Scar or tears- cold-hearted person

Blown hinge – Metaphor – he cannot open up to his wife

Porcelain – he is now fragile

And – repetition to show us that she has a lot to do to help him feel better.

Fractured rudder- Metaphor- he has lost his way in life.

Parachute silk – Metaphor- creates image of the collapsed lung also he is valuable to her- she wants to look after him

Climbs the rungs – Metaphor- she is trying to get back into his heart.

Grazed heart- Literally- he has damaged heart, metaphorically- he is upset.

Fetus of metal – metaphor- represents the start of a big change in people lives, causing shock.

Then – change from describing physical injuries to mental injuries.

Scarring – Mental not physical

Unexploded  mine – Metaphor- at any moment, he could explode.

Come close – she will never be able to completely heal him

In the poem Enjambment shows it’s a long process of recovery, its also Laura is speaking to us, revealing her innermost thoughts and feelings. Furthermore there are couplet- rhymed and rhymed no pattern to how he reacted to his injuries and how she can help him.
