Hammersmith and Fulham is a London Borough which is partly West London and partly South West London. It is part of the inner boroughs of London. The borough is home to three professional football clubs, Chelsea, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers. The population of Hammersmith and Fulham is around 150,000.

The history of Hammersmith and Fulham

The borough was formed in 1965 by merging Metropolitan Borough of Hammersmith and the Metropolitan Borough of Fulham. The Metropolitan Borough of Hammersmith was part of the ancient parish of Fulham. The chapel of ease was built for Hammersmith in 1631 and started its on independent committee.  It did not become part of London until 1889. The Metropolitan Borough of Fulham was a riverside borough between 1900 and 1965. 

Things to do in Hammersmith and Fulham

Take a walk in Bishop’s Park

Bishop park is one of the boroughs most popular and most used parks, it is situated south borough. 

The park officially opens at dawn each day and closes at the times below:

There is a cycle path in the park so you can go for a bike ride or there is playgrounds for children. There is also lots of sports grounds and gardens so there is lots of things to do!

Visit Fulham Palace House and Gardens

Fulham Palace was once the home of the Bishops of London. During the mid-13th century the original major house was abandoned. Different bishops then carried out building works to remodel the house. The house now shows a mixture of architectural styles. 

The house and garden are open daily to the public and entry is free. There opening times are:

Summer opening times: 31 March 2019 to 27 October 2019

  • Museum and historic rooms: 10.30 – 17.00
  • Café: 9.30 – 17.00
  • Shop: 10.30 – 17.00
  • Botanic garden: dawn – dusk
  • Walled garden: 10.15 – 16.15

Winter opening times: 28 October 2019 to 29 March 2020

  • Museum and historic rooms: 10.30 – 16.00
  • Café: 9.30 – 16.00
  • Shop: 10.30 – 16.00
  • Botanic garden: dawn – dusk
  • Walled garden: 10.15 – 15.45

They only close on Christmas Day, Boxing day and New Years Eve.

There are several overground and underground stations dotted around the borough, they are:

The A4 and A40 roads cross through the borough. 

There is also many bus stations so you do not need to worry about getting in and out of Hammersmith and Fulham.
