Viruses are hard to understand and hard to predict. Coronavirus was one of them. Coronavirus is a deadly virus that has caused us all to go into lockdown and be scared to get the virus, well some people are scared, others ask the question, why do we need to be scared? Why are we in lockdown with this virus but no other? In this post, we will be touching on the subject of why we are in lockdown and looking at the facts and stats of each virus that has been known to kill and comparing them.

Comparing Coronavirus to other Viruses.

Right now, people are recovering more than dying with this virus, in some places there are more deaths and in others there are more recoveries, but overall we have more recoveries than deaths with this virus. The probability of dying of the virus is currently 2%. The death rate is also 2% since we have got nearly over 1,000,000 recoveries, however SARS has a death rate of 10% and MERs has a death rate of 35%. Strange to think when MERs and SARs was running riot we could still go outside?

Deaths per day

Ebola – 11,000 Every 27 minutes someone dies
Polio – 100,000 Every 3 hours someone dies
Coronavirus – 200,000+ Every 12 seconds someone dies
Anthrax – 557,000 Every 30 minutes someone dies
Chicken Pox 1,000,000 Every 1.4 hours someone dies
Yellow Fever 3,000,000 Every 12 minutes someone dies
Rabies 5,000,000 Every 9 minutes someone dies
Rotavirus 11,400,000 Every 1.2 minutes someone dies
HIV/AIDS 25,000,000 Every 41 seconds someone dies

After all these facts, some people may still be thinking why are we stuck in lockdown? With every virus there comes the recovery rate, that is the most important number in the list of viruses. With this recovering fast and spreading fast, it’s not the best numbers. We have nearly 1,000,000 recovered from this virus but over 3,000,000 cases in general.

These stats show that the virus is spreading faster than we can all contain it, the virus spreads from speech, hands, air and other ways. Therefore we are in lockdown to stop the spread from reaching anyone else and spreading faster than ever. Right now, we are nearly at the peak of the virus and nearly done. The virus will always be around now but until we find a cure, we will constantly get people recovering and dying of this virus and instead of letting everyone out and get the virus, they have lock us in so we don’t have the virus spreading.

This also happened because of the older people in each family, if a younger family member gets the virus and spreads it onto someone over the age of 70… they will most likely die of the illness and the younger one will recover, or have more of a chance of recovering. Once a cure is found, we will be allowed to go outside and do everything normal instead of spreading the virus constantly.

After reading this, does lockdown sound easier?

Overall we are in lockdown to slow down the spread and slow down the infection rate so we can have a cure made up quicker than normal. We will be in lockdown for a while until they find a cure and a vaccine, to prevent unnecessary deaths and infections for the future. Lets do our part and stay home, stay safe. We don’t know how to contain this virus as of yet and have no cure for it, therefore they don’t want to risk anything. This is why we are in lockdown as well.
