
Homes have been evacuated and stranded people have been rescued as heavy rainfall causes flooding in northern England. Major incident has been declared in Cheshire after severe flooding.
The Met Office said 19mm of rain fell in the North West over eight hours on Wednesday after heavy rain started on Sunday. Six flood warnings remain in place they include rivers in Poynton, Little Bollington, Heatley and Altrincham.

Police are urging people not to ignore “road closed” signs by driving or walking through water. CFRS said: “Crews and police officers are working very hard to get to those in need and the most vulnerable in our communities.”
On Wednesday, Poynton Fire Station had more than 20 incidents in 7 hours.

The rail line between Manchester Airport and Wilmslow, Cheshire, is currently blocked due to flooding. The rail line between Skipton and Carlisle is expected to reopen later after it was blocked by a landslip.
