Britain’s High Streets are becoming unhealthier according to a report that has analysed 70 big UK towns and cities.

The Royal Society for Public Health has ranked the UK High Streets, there has been a rise in payday lenders, bookmakers, tanning salons and fast food outlets.

Edinburgh, Canterbury and Tauton have the healthiest outlets. The outlets that have been classed as healthy include leisure centres, health services, libraries and museums.

The number of fast-food outlets on UK streets rose by 4,000 between 2014 and 2017, it is also shown that there is five times more fast food in poor areas.

The UK’s 10 unhealthiest High Streets are:

  • Walsall
  • Blackpool
  • Stoke-on-Trent
  • Sunderland
  • Northampton
  • Bolton
  • Wolverhampton
  • Huddersfield
  • Bradford

The UK’s 10 healthiest High Streets are:

  • Edinburgh
  • Canterbury
  • Taunton
  • Shrewsbury
  • Cheltenham
  • York
  • Brighton & Hove
  • Eastbourne
  • Exeter
  • Cambridge
