President Trump loves nothing more than the sound of his own voice – however, he will not look back on 2019’s 4th of July “Salute to America” event, one filled with military flyovers and fireworks too fondly. As well as being branded a waste of money and a blatant attempt to bring politics into a national holiday it will always be remembered for the day when Mr Trump seemed to lose his grasp of American History.

When referring to the year 1775, he said:

“Our army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over the airports, it did everything it had to do”.

Now although we are no experts on American general knowledge or IQ levels, we would assume that the vast majority of citizens will know there were no airports in 1775 and the earliest record of Balloons being used in combat was in France at the Battle of Fleurus in 1794. Any form of aeronautical combat on US soil didn’t commence until 1861 with the advent of the Union Army Balloon Corps. This error has been attributed by some Presidential media outlets to him having difficulty reading the teleprompter, however, one would have thought he would have at least had a read through it prior to it going public.

The Wright brothers must be turning in their graves.

The first powered flight is widely accredited to the Wright brothers in 1903.
