Thunderstorms covered most of the UK on Tuesday night as the country may see a heatwave this week. Houses across the country were damaged after being hit by lighting.

The Met Office issued a yellow severe weather warning on Tuesday for most of England, Scotland and Wales until 9am on Wednesday.

Police have been searching the river Thames to locate three people who have thought to be seen entering the river. So far there are no updates on whether the people have been found.

The thunderstorms came after temperatures got to 30C in some places in England and hotter temperatures are expected until the end of the week. Temperatures in London after expected to reach 38C in Thursday with could break a record for the hottest day in July.

“Quite a lot of places are back up to 23 or 24 degrees already (at 5am),” said Emma Smith, a Met Office meteorologist. “It’s normally 13 or 14 degrees at this time of year, so that’s 10 degrees above average.”
