A US teenager was jailed after calling the police that lead to a 28-year-old male dying over a hoax hostage situation. The 28-year-old man that was killed during the incident was innocent and had nothing to do with the hoax phone call at all. He was just thought to be the man that had the gun and thought to be more dangerous. The call lasted a while before the police finally arrived to what they thought was a hostage situation.

One of the teenagers were called Casey Viner, 19 from Ohio, he was with his friend Tyler Barriss, who made the call and was jailed for 20 years due to him being guilty of this crime. In this 911 call, Barriss claimed that he had shot his dad in the head and had his brother and mother in the closet while holding a gun at them, however the police came down and shot a father of two by the name of Andrew Finch.

In court, Barriss has been sentenced to 20 years in prison and Viner was guilty of conspiracy and obstruction of Justice and sentence to a two-year ban from gaming. Viner said he was “awfully sorry” and didn’t intend for any of this to happen as he thinks of this every day.”We impose sentences not only for what people intend, but what happened,” said US District Judge Eric Melgren.
