Police are appealing for the mother of a newborn baby found in Newham to come forward as they are worried for her well being.

MET POLICE

Police were called around 22:15 hrs on Thursday, 31 January to a park area close to Roman Road/Saxon Road, E6 to reports of an abandoned baby. Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended; the baby girl was taken to an east London hospital where she is being cared for.

The newborn was found abandoned in a shopping bag in overnight temperatures and was discovered by a woman walking her dog, who heard the baby crying in a play area off Roman Road at 22:15 GMT.

Hospital staff have called the baby Roman after where she was found.

Inspector Shane Clarke of North East Command Unit, said: “We are growing increasingly concerned for your welfare and I urge you to make contact either with police, your local hospital or GP surgery. It is really important that we know that you are safe.

“I would also urge anyone who has information that could help us to reunite this baby with her mother to come forward.”

The child is still at east London hospital and at this moment in time she is stable. Police have become increasingly worried about the baby’s mother as she may be in need of urgent medical attention and urge her to contact police or London Ambulance Service.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of the mother is asked to call police on 101 quoting reference CAD7825/31JAN or Tweet @MetCC.
