US media reports have said Jeffrey Epstein signed his will two days before killing himself in New York. Court papers were filed last week in the US Virgin Islands, they valued Epstein’s estate at more than $577 million but listed no details of an inheritor, the Associated Press reported.

Epstein died whilst awaiting his trial for sex trafficking and conspiracy charges. The 66-year-old had died by “suicide by hanging” in his jail cell. He was discovered on August 10th.

Epstein had pleaded not guilty to the charges made against him and was held without bail, he was facing  at least 45 years in jail if found guilty.

Epstein had signed the will documents on August 8th and just 48 hours he was found dead in his cell. This led to an investigation of the Manhattan detention center/Metropolitan Correctional Center.

New York-born Epstein worked as a teacher before going into finance. Before to the criminal cases against him, he was best known for his wealth and high-profile connections such as US President Donald Trump, former President Bill Clinton and the UK’s Prince Andrew.

President Trump said had suggested there may have been foul play in Epstein’s death. The Department of Justice has launched an investigation into how Epstein was able to die in New York’s highly secure Correctional Center. Two prison guards were suspended and a warden temporarily reassigned from MCC  after reports that 30-minute checks, which are required within Epstein’s unit, were not carried out properly.
