Anne Hegerty has spoken out about her Asperger’s on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

Fans watched her speak about her condition with former EastEnders actress Rita Simons. And is being praised massively for it.

Anne explained: “I didn’t raise the autism issue. It’s not like: ‘I want you to know I have this interesting disability that you have to accommodate’,”

“If someone else raises it then I make it quite clear that I’m happy to talk about it.”

Anne is best known for her role on The Chase as the Governess and she revealed she did not get diagnosed until the age of 45 in 2003.

NHS tells us that the Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is the name for a range of similar conditions including Asperger syndrome. This affects a person’s social interaction, communication, interests and behaviour.  People with Asperger syndrome will see, hear and feel the world differently to others. It is a lifelong syndrome which can not be ‘cured’. People with Asperger syndrome do not have learning disabilities that many autistic people may have they just have specific ones, some may say everything feels overwhelming and understanding others can make life seem harder.

Away from the cameras Anne told Rita “I really appreciate how nice and sympathetic they’ve been to me,”

“It was nice that they said I pick up on social cues because I’m never quite sure that I entirely do. I just get overwhelmed with all the things there are to do.”

Anne explained top her campmates how she must fully image herself completing a last before she actually does it or else it can throw her off.
