The US is sending another 1000 troops to the Middle East to add to the 1500 recently sent, amid rising tensions with Iran. The latest escalation is in response to the alleged attacks on two oil tankers in the region. The US and UK are blaming Iran for these attacks, however, the EU China & Russia seem less certain and of course, Iran had fervently denied any involvement.
Adding 2500 troops to the region hardly signifies a land invasion is imminent, however, it is stoking up the heat and the chances of an accidental skirmish have increased.
If the US does escalate things it will most likely be a sporadic air and maritime battle, not a land campaign.
