Brazil took a “Step to the Right” by electing former soldier Jair Bolsonaro as president. The 63 year old Social Conservative is a deeply polarising character who is a big fan of pro-market policies and despite the misgivings of some seems popular with the regions leaders, with most voicing their support.
Even Donald Trump got in on the act:
Had a very good conversation with the newly elected President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, who won his race by a substantial margin. We agreed that Brazil and the United States will work closely together on Trade, Military and everything else! Excellent call, wished him congrats!
