A 20-year-old man who was accused of killing PC Andrew Harper has had the murder charges dropped against him after spending a month in police custody. Prosecutors said they were no longer continuing the case against Jed Foster.

Newlywed PC Andrew Harper was killed on duty when he was dragged along a road by a vehicle in Berkshire on August 15th. A post-mortem examination found the PC died of multiple injuries.

Prosecutor Jonathan Polnay told the Old Bailey: “The Crown Prosecution Service concluded the full code is not met. There is a not a realistic prospect of conviction.

“Proceedings against Mr Foster cannot and should not be continued.”

Henry Long, 18, from Reading, and two boys, 17, are accused of murder and conspiracy to steal a quad bike. Mr Long will remain in custody while the other two will be in a youth detention accommodation. A plea hearing will take place on December 13th with a trail expected on March 9th 2020.

Thomas King, 21, from Basingstoke, has been charged with conspiracy to steal a quad bike and was granted conditional bail until December 13th.
