The BBC has reported that a team organised to look into a technological solution to the Irish backstop, which is the main stumbling block on any Brexit deal, have refused to even sign off on the terms of reference for the study.  The Business and Trade Union Alternative Arrangements Advisory Group, one of three committees recently appointed by the government to come up with and test ideas for “alternative arrangements” are asking for changes to the objectives and assurances that their conclusions cant be used to support a no-deal exit. This seems to make the whole exercise a waste of money, given that it already shows bias and conflict of interest by the party responsible for the research.
