A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering Hull University student Libby Squire whose body was found in the Humber. Her body was found six weeks after she disappeared on February 1st.

Hundreds of police officers and members of the public were involved in the search for the 21-year-old who was reported missing after a night out. 

The male who has been arrested is now been questioned by detectives. 

In a statement, Humberside Police said: “The man was arrested earlier today and is currently being questioned by detectives.

“Libby was reported missing in the early hours of Friday February 1, 2019, after a night out in Hull with friends.

“Just over six weeks later, on Wednesday, March 20, Libby’s body was recovered from the Humber Estuary.

“Libby’s family continue to receive support from specially trained officers and have been updated on the investigation.”

Miss Squire went missing just after midnight on February 1st near her home on Wellesley Avenue, Hull. On the night Miss Squire went missing, she is believed to have been dropped off in a taxi from The Welly nightclub to her student home on Wellesley Avenue at about 23:30. She did not enter the house but her phone was found there. She was spotted on CCTV 10 minutes later near a bench on Beverley Road, by the junction with Haworth Street, where a motorist stopped to offer her help. She is believed to have remained in the area until about 00:09. She is later reported missing and officers begin a search. 

On March 20th a body was recovered from the Humber Estuary however, post mortem results have never been released due to still being an investigation. By March 22nd her death was treated as “a potential homicide” by Humberside Police.
