Estée Lauder is taking a step in the right direction and are banning animal testing for their products by 2023.
The brand are supporting the #BeCrueltyFree campaign led by the Human Society International. This is the largest ever effort to ban global animal testing in history.
The Estée Lauder companies is sold in 150 countries and in its portfolio has over 25 brands including Tom Ford and Clinique.
In a statement, Anna Klein, senior vice president of Estée Lauder Companies, said: “‘We are proud to partner with Humane Society International, an organisation that has done such thoughtful work advocating for animals everywhere. They have been a wonderful partner and advisor as we work together towards our common goal to bring an end to cosmetic animal testing worldwide.”
Testing cosmetics and toiletries on animals has been banned in the UK since 2013. According to Peta. “In some countries it is compulsory for any company that sells cosmetics to pay for the products to be tested on animals. This means that some companies that have been cruelty-free for years have turned their backs on their ethical policies and have started testing on animals in order to reach these lucrative developing markets.”
China is one of the places that it is compulsory to do animal testing however, they have decided they will be lifting the law from 2020 so there is no forces to test on animals.
According to Cruelty Free International, 115 million animals may be used in experiments worldwide each year.
Other cruelty free brands include:
- The Body Shop
- Real Techniques
- ESPA
- Cover FX
- Lime Crime
- OUAI
- Too Faced

… and many more.
