All about rosacea: information, tips and tricks to help!

People can have a hard time dealing with rosacea. The dry, sore skin with unexplained flare ups is just part of the symptoms people battling rosacea face o9n a daily basis.

Rosacea is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition which usually occurs on the face and can affect all skin types. It may also show itself with constant redness, blood vessels and spots which look similar to acne.

There are four main symptoms that can help you identify if you have rosacea, these are: persistent flushing of the face; visible blood vessel and  thread veins; red spots, papules and pustules; the thickening of the skin which can also appear like bumps. You may also experience burning and stinging of the skin on the face which will develop as the rocasea does. Dry skin is not normally associated with rosacea but can be a factor for individual cases.

It is not known what causes rosacea but there are things that can trigger the rocasea to make it look worse. These are things such as tea, coffee, alcohol and spicy food. In some cases it will be the sun or going from hot to a cold temperature (and the other way round). However, some sun exposure can help reduce the inflammation. Other trigger could be strenuous exercise and stress.

Rosacea has no known cure, there is treatments that can help symptoms. This can include antibiotics and topical medications which can be prescribed by your GP. The GP will examine the skin, ask about symptoms and triggers to diagnose the condition. In some situations your GP may arrange further tests to rule out other conditions with similar symptoms such as lupus or menopause, to test these they will do a blood test or skin biopsy.

If you have rosacea you should avoid anything which can irritate the skin more. It is best to use natural, gentle, non-fragranced skin products when suffering with a skin condition.

Green concealers/correctors can be used to counteract redness of the skin and help tone down the appearance of inflammation. It is advised that little as makeup should be worn as soon as possible to avoid irritating spots or drying out the skin.

If you ignore rosacea it can cause it to become worse due to what you will be eating and drinking or any other triggers you have. It is important to see a doctor is it gets worse. When left untreated rosacea can cause other complications such as irritation around the eyes and enlargement of the nose.
