It can be hard to find your shade, tone and coverage in a foundation that works for your skin type, it is not a walk in the park. Many have luck and find theirs easily but for some it can take a while…

In a recent survey from Revlon Colorstay Foundation revealed that 1 in 10 women say finding their perfect foundation is as important as finding the perfect other half!

Whether you prefer full blown coverage that shows no skin or something light and dewy there is a few tips you need to know.

1. If you are buying a foundation for everyday wear, try keep the coverage to light/medium or go for a tinted moisturiser then where you need more coverage whip out your best concealer and apply.
2. Choose three shades you think are a close match to your skin and watch the three side by side down your cheek towards your jawline, the shade that is the closest that you can hardly see is the one that matches your skin the best.
3. Natural light all the way! Go outside or be where your face hits the natural light to see which is a match as indoor lighting can alter your skin colour.
4. Have a tanned and pale foundation as your face shade will change depending on the season.
5. If you have oily skin try a foundation that does not contain many oils (a matte/satin finish). Try a primer that prolongs your foundation and set with a light weight powder.
6. If your foundation is applying streaky ditch the brush and try a beauty blender/ makeup sponge or your fingers.
