Hair inspo and styling hacks for the party season by Jen Atkin.

Party season is in full go, are you wondering what to do with your hair this year? Jen Atkin aka celebrity hairstylist has many hair inspirations for this season.

Here are some hair styles inspired by Jen Atkin to try.

The Volume blot dry…

  1. Prepare damp hair
  2. Blow dry using any hair dryer (Dyson hair wrap will make this a lot easier for you), use medium heat and settings. Remember to use a round volumizing brush as this is how you will achieve the look. Blow-drying tip = it is important to smooth the hair in small sections with a brush, focus at the roots.
  3. Prep the hair using a texture mist such as OUAI Memory Mist.
  4. Curl hair under using a curling iron. Curl the hair with random sizes to have an undone finish. Leave the ends straight.
  5. Finish by using hair spray and flip hair upside down their spray. After spraying run your fingers through your hair and it will give you hair instant volume.

Or

Just use rollers, Velcro, just replace this with step 4.

The Kim K half up half down hair…

Recreating Kim Kardashian West’s K half up half down hair is easier than you think. All you need is some hair oil (Jen uses OUAI hair oil) and a hair band or elastic hair band.

  1. Calm any frizz and smooth hair down by using hair oil on the roots (do not over do it with the oil, a little goes a long way). Make sure you only apply at the roots. Smooth the hair and stop where the hair band will be.
  2. Wash the oil of your hands and separate the hair into the top and bottom, how much you want on the top is up to you.
  3. Smooth the top section and tightly tie with a hair bobble. Make sure all hair on the top is smooth and slick.
  4. Make sure the bottom section is smooth and detangled. DO NOT ADD OIL OR PRODUCTS TO THE BOTTOM OF HAIR OR THE “TAIL” OF THE TOP SECTION.
  5. From the “tail” of the top section, take a very small section of hair from the back and wrap around hair tie/band/bobble etc… Secure with a bobby pin.
  6. Set the hair with hair spray.

Want a more unfinished version of the look?

Use less oil and more texture spray…

  1. Use texture products/spray to add volume and texture.
  2. Lightly curl hair to create waves (if you would like to)
  3. Use a sprinkle or dusting of hair oil or hair spray to the roots if you want to calm a few bits of the hair (hardly use these/ do not use these if possible as they will take away the unfinished look).
  4. Section your hair into the half up and half down sections then tie with a bobble.
  5. From the “tail” of the top section, take a very small section of hair from the back and wrap around hair tie/band/bobble etc… Secure with a bobby pin. Loosely do this so it is not as perfected.
  6. Add any touch ups to the hair. Add more volume spray and shake up with fingers to add a messy look.
  7. Likely mist the hair with hair spray to keep the look in place.

Effortless waves…

Want an effortless hairstyle that does not need a lot of skill? This is the look for you.

  1. Start by using a texturizing or volume product, this can be dry shampoo, mousse (if you are starting from wet hair), texture spray, volume spray. Use you fingers to shake the hair to create volume.
  2. Use a flat iron or curling iron to do random bends and waves throughout your hair; this will give your hair a volumized, unfinished look.
  3. Set in place with a dusting of hair spray to hold the waves.

Sleek and straight.

This hairstyle looks amazing on blunt cuts and short hair.

  1. Straighten your hair slowly making sure you do every strand of hair. Do this until you are happy with the straightness.
  2. Jen recommends spraying a paddle brush with a soft hairspray and brush your hair to help with frizz and flyways.
  3. To create a sleek look use a serum that holds and shines the hair (do not overuse the serum as it can make you hair look greasy).
