There are lots of words used in beauty but what do they mean? Here are 10 words to help you know the definitions in the beauty world.
Baking
When you think of the term baking you think of the method that you use to cook things by dry heat (oven) like a cake. Well that’s not the case in the makeup world. Baking is the technique you use that consists of applying a layer of powder over foundation or concealer and leaving it there for a minute or two before wiping it away. This allows the powder to settle into the makeup to make it last all day.
Glycolic peel
A glycolic peel is a chemical peel that exfoliates the outer layer of dead skin cells, it leaves your skin with a brand-new feel and boosts a radiant glow.
Illuminating
A term used to describe skin that is nourished and naturally radiant, it may also be used to describe the effect of strobing when using highlighter.
Olaplex
Olaplex is the system that permanently rebuilds damaged disulphide bonds in your hair that are broken down in chemical process of dying hair. It helps to repair damaged hair.
Topical
Topical is the applying process to a certain area of the skin. For example, spot cream us topically means you only apply to spots/pimples.
Paraben free
Paraben free means they are paraben free (preservative-free) so they are no nasty chemicals or ingredients in soaps, deodorants or moisturisers.
Cc
CC is Colour Correcting, this is found in foundations, primers and concealers. They help even out skin tones and block out any darkness in under eyes.
Ferulic acid
This is an antioxidant found in the cell walls of plants and seeds of apples and oranges. It contains an anti-aging affect when applied in the correct places.
Melanin
This is what gives our skin and hair pigment, if you have a light skin tone an increase of melanin will cause tanning and dark spots.
Niacinamide
This is an active water-soluble form of vitamin, it helps regulate sebum, improve congestion and calm breakouts.
