UFC 232 – Jones Vs Gustaffson
The eagerly awaited rematch between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustaffson takes place on 29th December, when the Light Heavyweight title is on the line. This fight has been a long time coming, primarily due to regulatory problems arising out of Jones’ positive steroid test in connection with his overturned win over current champ Daniel Cormier back in UFC 214. Cormier is being stripped of the title, as he prepares to fight Brock Lesnar at Heavyweight early in 2019. Following their original meeting at UFC 165 in 2013 many, including Gustaffson himself, felt that the fight was wrongly awarded to Jones following a gruelling and thrilling battle so it will be interesting to see how the fight plays out. Jones has proven himself to be one of the best of all time, however, his spell away and the issues he has faced could have a significant bearing on the outcome.
The co-main event is the women’s Featherweight championship battle between Cris Cyborg and Amanda Nunes. Cyborg is attempting the third defence of her title against current bantamweight champion Nunes. Due primarily to Cyborg’s dominance, she has struggled to find worthy opponents, but Nunes is sure to offer stiff competition, even in a different weight division, and has long been touted as the most meaningful challenger to Cyborg.
