UFC 268 Usman Vs Covington

UFC 268 Usman Vs Covington

From the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York, the UFC presented one of the most stacked cards of the year so far.  The event was headlined by the Welterweight title rematch between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington, but those lower down on the card could easily have been headliners in their own rights, with well known and experienced fighters scattered throughout the nights fights

The main event, between two fighters where there is no love lost, lived up to the hype and took us all the way to a decision, with Usman successfully retaining his title and taking the unanimous decision.  Immediately after the fight the pair appeared to bury the hatchet, but that peace didn’t last long with Covington returning to his controversial best in the post-fight press conference, by calling Usman a cheat.  It will be interesting to see what comes next.  The judge’s scorecards read 48-47, 48-47 and 49 – 46

Reigning strawweight champion Rose Namajunas came out successful in her defence of the belt against Zhang Weili.  As with the main event, this was a rematch, but this one lasted a little longer than their previous meeting.  This time we got to the end of the fifth round and Namajunas was awarded victory by way of a split decision.  Judges scorecards read 48-47, 47-48 and 49-46
