The Whippet is the smaller version of the breed known as the Greyhound and was originally bred as a coursing hound. Over the years these slight yet elegant dogs have proved that they are extremely good at their jobs and have became a favourite with many people in the country and around the world. They are also known as the snap dog.

These dogs are very loving and gentle in a home environment but remember they are hounds and that mean they do still have a strong prey drive. So if they see something moving in the distance they will chase it without a second thought. So this is important to have a secure garden so that this dog can’t escape.

This breed also thrives in the home environment and will happily lay on a couch with their owners and give them lots of love and care. Do remember these dogs need lots of exercise. They also require a lot of mental stimulation so playing interactive games is a good way to keep them happy.

These dogs are normally quiet and gently but can sometimes be nervy and shy if not socialised at a young age or when they haven’t been given the best start in life. These dogs are often wary of strangers and will bark when they feel threatened.

these dogs have an average life expectancy of 12 to 14 years that when they are properly cared for and are fed an appropriate diet.
