This small terrier breed was bred in the Lake District where they were prized for their hunting abilities thanks to their small size and keen senses. Over time, this small dog breed soon became a very popular choice in the UK and in the other areas in the world. They boast having loyal and friendly natures.

These small dogs are known for being energetic, quite independent and confident this is their traits by nature while at the same time being affectionate and loyal when they are around people, other dogs and even livestock. Keep in mind they have an extremely strong prey drive and for such a small dog, they boast having a surprisingly loud bark.

These dogs have perfected the ability to crawl on their bellies, which is extremely useful when they need to get to prey that goes to ground. They are also capable of compressing their lungs so they can fit into small holes such as burrows. This dog is known for digging and will happily dog their way out of any garden if the mood takes them. But also keep in mind if they are left alone for long periods of times they will dig their way through furniture and carpets too which is can be a bad behavioural habit.

They are intelligent so they need the right amount of daily exercise and mental stimulation and they are highly adaptable breed and they will happily live in an apartment and they do in a country environment.

These dogs have an average lifespan of 12 to 15 years and when they properly cared for and fed the appropriate good quality food which suits their ages.
