Kennel Club UK dog breeds: Working Group
The Kennel Club UK currently (2019) recognises 221 breeds of dog, which have been bred for different purposes. All dog breeds have been consigned to one of seven groups, according to factors such as size, shape, function and temperament. The seven dog groups recognised by the Kennel Club are; Toy, Utility, Gundog, Working, Pastoral, Terrier and Hound.
Working Dogs Group
Working dogs are those breeds which have, down the centuries, been selectively bred to be mostly utilised as either guard dogs or as search & rescue dogs. The working group consists of some of the most specialised breeds of dog in the world, which have made them invaluable to human endeavour. Dog breeds in the Working Group are:
