This breed is one of the largest on the planet and are well known for being Switzerland famous rescue dogs and being a gentle giant in the dog world. This dog breed has found it way into many homes in the world known for their kind nature and more especially with kids of all ages.
The St. Bernard is renowned for being laid back and can form an extremely strong bond with its family being renowned for their big amount of affection they give out. They are known for easy to train dogs. They have even been known to be easier to handle over much more smaller breeds. However they are not the best for a first time owner even with them being easy to train. They need to have a house big enough and the time for them to get the right amount of exercise. They also need groomed regularly.
They have an average life span of 8 to 10 year when they are cared for right with the food fed appropriate to suit their diet.
