This breed is native to Germany and boasts about a long and interesting ancestry, these dogs were originally bred to hunt badgers, rabbits and to track wounded deer, They are slightly smaller that normal Dachshund. They are charming dogs and are very popular in the UK and everywhere else in the world. They make amazing family pets and wonderful companions.
This little dog is very intelligent and has a large amount of courage which can prove to be their downfall. They are loyal and form strong bonds with their owners and families. They may be small but they are extremely energetic dogs as they love being out and about and always love to be active.
They need to be given a lot of mental stimulation everyday so they can be truly happy. But when they are tired they can be very chilled out and calm dogs. They can be quite wilful at times which means they can be a little disobedient when their mood takes them. It is highly suggested that they receive training from a young age if you want a properly well behaved dog.
This breed can be very vocal at times and especially when strangers are about to when they don’t like something happening around them. Theses dogs have an average life span of 14 to 17 years when they are looked after correctly and given the right food suited to their age.
