Kwai = Water Buffalo or alternately used as an insult to call someone stupid.
Kwae = Tributary of a river. (Kwae Yai being the new name of the part of the Mae Klong river the bridge is built over.)
Kuai = A nasty word for penis. (My wife was rather reluctant to even say this one.)
There would be no confusion if we were talking face to face.

There are many ways to Romanize the spelling of Thai words – just changing the spelling does not change the meaning.
If you have proof that what you are saying is more accurate than what my wife says please stop by my home in Kanchanaburi and we can discuss it.
BTW – Mae Nam Noi is a small river – not kwai or khwae.
