why the fuck not? why was “schindler´s list” black and white? because the makers made a decision about the style and atmosphere of the movie. because sometimes a film shot in black and white does capture the associations we make with a past period better. and because sometimes a movie simply needs no colour to tell a story or move the audience.

I was so affected by this movie as a child….that I could never buy Hopkins as Hannibal Lector…he will always be Dr Treeves….strange, but true!

Thank you…Lynch, Brooks, Hurt and all who participated in this master work.

@Anox1e No the part of Joseph Merrick was played by John Hurt the actor, and it is the most heartwrenching film I have ever seen, the real Joseph Merrick died at the age of 27 in 1890, he died so young and endured so much suffering in his short life, I am crying as I write this, thank God in his final years he was taken care of by Dr Frederick Treves at the London hospital where he had his own rooms and had people in every day to care for him or who knows what would have become of him!

Now I don’t mean to sound rude at all, I have all respect for everything, and it would really upset me to watch this movie, however just one question… Was the real ‘elephant man’ a part of this movie or just an actor? I believe just an actor, if this was real then it is cruel, and should be banned.

@mushal7james7tony Are you serious? What does it matter if it’s in black and white? Shallow git.

I feel so sorry for him Joseph Merrick, can’t imagine what he went through. Watched a documentary too, and even that made me cry. This movie is great, and although I am not the biggest fan of black and white movies, it doesn’t matter to me because it’s a great film with a strong message.

How Can People Say That Joseph Merrick (I refuse to call him the elephant man ) looks like an elephant he never looked like an elephant and his story shall forever be regarded as one of the most tragic but beautiful tales to ever happen and the kind heartedness of Dr Frederick Treves
