G.F.G.C. is a magnificent nine hole course set on the slopes above Grange Over Sands and Cartmel. The Club has some of the best views in South Lakeland and provides a fair but testing golf course which will suit all standards of golfer.
The founder and originator of the club was A.B.Davy, the first Club Captain and President. Mr Davy arranged for a survey to be carried out and together with Dr. R.W.Mason, Mr O.H.Brown and Mr. J.N. Gedye planned the course as a testing alternative to the proposed flat course at Meathop Road, Grange Over Sands. This preserved the ruggedness and challenging nature similiar to the former Grange Golf Club which was situated on the hills above Cartmel below Wart Barrow Lane.
The Silverdale and former Grange professional Fred Robinson was approached and he was engaged to construct and lay out the course, work commenced in late 1950. Greens and tees were built up but by utilising the natural hazards of the slopes of the fell this provided a taxing and testing nine hole course.
