Islington is a inner London Borough which is around 30 minutes away from central London. Islington is home to a lot of history and community. The Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix feature its headquarters at 12 Grimmauld Place, a fictitious street in Islington. Islington is home to The King\u2019s Head Theatre and Pub which is the second oldest operating pub theatre in the UK .It is the first pub theatre since Shakespeare, as it opened in 1970.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The history of Islington<\/span><\/h3>\n

Gislandune was the original name for Islington, it was named by the Saxon in the early 1000s. Islington became a borough in 1965 when the Metropolitan Boroughs of Islington and Finsbury joined together. Years ago, Islington was just a small village on the outskirts of the city where cattle would stop overnight when on their way to Smithfield. In the 15th century most of the land belonged to religious institutions. Islington became a place with large farms in the 15th century and would supply London with butter, cream and milk.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, as London grew Islington became filled with brick terraces and the main buildings followed in 1820s. The aerial bombing of World War II caused a lot of damage to Islington\u2019s housing stock. 3,200 dwellings were destroyed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
