Instagram has launched a new policy which will restrict posts that encourage people to buy \u2018laxative\u2019 diet teas, lollipops and shakes. Instagram announced the news on Wednesday and it will also be putting restrictions in place for cosmetic surgery to combat the negative impact on body image.\u00a0According to Instagram the new policy will also apply to Facebook.<\/span><\/p>\n

Posts that promote weight-loss products or cosmetic surgery will have age restrictions that will ban under 18s from viewing them. As well as this, posts for weight-loss products which have a \u201cmiraculous claim\u201d and have discount codes will be banned or removed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Emma Collins, Instagram\u2019s public policy manager, said:\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cWe want Instagram to be a positive place for everyone that uses it and this policy is part of our ongoing work to reduce the pressure that people can sometimes feel as a result of social media.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe’ve sought guidance from external experts, including Dr Ysabel Gerrard in the UK, to make sure any steps to restrict and remove this content will have a positive impact on our community of over one billion people around the world \u2013 whilst ensuring Instagram remains a platform for expression and discussion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
