Brazils New President Jair Bolsonaro has\u00a0wasted no time in stirring up controversy by vowing to move their Embassy from its current location in Tel-Aviv to\u00a0 Jerusalem, the status\u00a0of which remains a bone of contention between Israel and the Palestinians. The USA & Guatemala have already made this move, however other\u00a0countries have been more diplomatic, especially given that\u00a0Israeli sovereignty over Jerusalem has never been recognised internationally.<\/p>\n
Although there\u00a0are around 200,000 Israeli Jews living in East Jerusalem their\u00a0presence is considered illegal under International Law and this remains the main stumbling block in regional peace talks.<\/p>\n
It was no surprise that the Trump administration\u00a0chose to disregard international condemnation following there move earlier this year, but its unclear\u00a0as to why Brazil has taken this step, other than for potential economic gain, which seems to be something close to the new Presidents heart.<\/p>\n
