{"id":221551,"date":"2020-09-24T12:01:04","date_gmt":"2020-09-24T11:01:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/news\/?p=221551"},"modified":"2020-09-24T12:04:24","modified_gmt":"2020-09-24T11:04:24","slug":"onecoin-and-the-cryptoqueen-scam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/news\/onecoin-and-the-cryptoqueen-scam\/","title":{"rendered":"OneCoin And The \u201cCryptoqueen\u201d Scam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>You may or may not have heard of OneCoin.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you haven\u2019t, here\u2019s a brief overview.<\/p>\n<p>OneCoin was essentially a pyramid scheme, which ran a few years ago under the direction of the \u201ccryptoqueen\u201d Dr Ruja, and involved investors buying packages that had \u201cvalue\u201d in the form of the cryptocurrency OneCoin.<\/p>\n<p>However, OneCoin wasn\u2019t even a proper cryptocurrency, despite it being dubbed the Bitcoin killer, and it didn\u2019t even have a blockchain. More so, all those people who invested collectively made Dr Ruja and her associates ~$15 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Shes since gone missing &#8211; last seen in 2017 &#8211; and her brother and lawyer have been arrested by the FBI on scam charges.<\/p>\n<p>There was a cult type following, full of believers that were fully invested in the company, both with their minds and their money. It\u2019s also not believed anyone who invested actually made any money, except everyone at the top, including the missing Dr Ruja.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Ruja is from Bulgaria, and had previously worked at some pretty established firms. On top of this, she studied at Oxford University which gave her a lot of credibility in investors eyes.
