Kelly has been hit with bribery charges, as a result of bribing a government official in order to get a fraudulent identification document to marry singer Aaliyah, who was under aged at the time, in 1994.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The girl was named as &#8220;Jane Doe&#8221; in the documents, but has widely been identified by US media as singer Aaliyah. They got married when she was 15 and R. Kelly was 27, but the girls name wasn&#8217;t the only thing incorrect on the certificate, it also said she was 18 years old at the time.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 670px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/660\/cpsprodpb\/9C1A\/production\/_110026993_836a792c-5a99-462d-a8d6-c4eade0b4ac0.jpg\" alt=\"R. Kelly arrives for a hearing on sexual abuse charges at the Leighton Criminal Court Building in June 2019\" width=\"660\" height=\"371\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">R Kelly has faced allegations of abuse for two decades<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Court documents reportedly say the bribe was paid on 30 August 199, which happened to be just one day before R Kelly got married to Aaliyah.<\/p>\n<p>Their marriage was annulled months later because Aaliyah was obviously under aged. The two singers had a close relationship, but Aaliyah unfortunately died in a plane crash in 2001. Her debut album, Age Ain&#8217;t Nothing But a Number, was produced and written by R. Kelly.<\/p>\n<p>R. Kelly&#8217;s lawyer told ABC News that he had &#8220;no idea&#8221; Aaliyah was 15 when they married.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>R.
