Chocolate giant Cadbury is set to reduce the amount of calories in the chocolate bars Fudge, Chomp and the Curly Wurly.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They\u2019ve said that they\u2019re making this move to try and combat childhood obesity, which is becoming an increasing problem in wealthy countries.<\/p>\n

Mondelez boss, Louise Stigant told The Grocer it was: \u201cthe right approach in terms of helping parents control calories when wanting to treat their children.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She added: “We feel strongly about playing our part in tackling childhood obesity.”<\/p>\n

I\u2019m sure if you grew up in the UK you will have had some of the snacks in question, as they\u2019re very cheap, small and tasty. They\u2019re the perfect thing to just nibble on as a kid if you\u2019ve got a few pence spare when you\u2019re out with your friends. They\u2019re not the healthiest though, and stats released recently show that big companies like this need to help change the health of children in the UK.<\/p>\n

Stats show that around 40% of children in the most deprived areas of the UK were either overweight or obese, which is pretty concerning. This could be down to parents not looking after kids diets properly, or the simple, sad fact that it\u2019s often cheaper to eat unhealthy. This reflects in the fact that only around 25% of children in the richer areas of the UK are overweight or obese, showing money is a factor here.<\/p>\n

Its nice to see Cadbury taking these things into consideration, as the snacks are cheap and accessible, which may be playing a part in this health problem.<\/p>\n

Mondelez, Cadbury\u2019s parent company, has said they\u2019re making the change in coming months.<\/p>\n
