The documents on the plain were in the green paper which proposes different ways of tackling this.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">They include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Encouraging &#8220;active play&#8221; such as skipping in nurseries and more travel by bike and on foot<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Doubling funding for the diabetes prevention programme which targets lifestyle support to those most at risk of developing type 2 diabetes<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ensuring any smoker admitted to hospital automatically gets offered help to quit<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Extending tooth brushing schemes in nurseries and primary schools<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Reviewing the evidence on sleep and health with a view to developing clear national guidance on daily recommended hours of sleep<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Smoking remains the UK&#8217;s biggest preventable cause of cner, around 5.9 million people smoked cigarettes in 2018 &#8211; 14.4% of the population.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Helen Donovan, of the Royal College of Nursing, said:<\/strong> &#8220;We&#8217;ve been waiting some time for these plans which appear to have been buried in the dying days of the current government.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Consultations on the green paper runs until October 14th 2019, the government are expected to respond by spring 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The government is pledging to end smoking in England by 2030.
