The Transport of London (TfL) has announced plans for mobile users to get 4G access across the Tube network.\u00a0There are already 260 wi-fi enabled stations on the London Underground and on TfL rail services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-14181\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/07\/shutterstock_329466905.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"803\" height=\"522\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/07\/shutterstock_329466905.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/07\/shutterstock_329466905-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/07\/shutterstock_329466905-768x499.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 803px) 100vw, 803px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Shashi Verma, chief technology officer at TfL, said:<\/strong> &#8220;We have begun the complex work to allow our customers to be able to get phone reception within our tunnels from March 2020, with more stations and lines coming online during the coming years.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>London Mayor Sadiq Khan said:<\/strong> &#8220;This is a really important step for the millions of people who use the Tube each year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;Introducing 4G and, in the future, 5G, will help Londoners and visitors keep in touch and get the latest travel information while on the go.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There will be a trail section on the Jubilee Line from Westminster to Canning Town ( it will not include London Bridge and Waterloo stations).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The entire project is expected to require 2,000km of cabling with engineers working weeknight shifts to minimises disruption to passengers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">TfL have pledged on Friday that by the mid 2020s the entire Tube network will have connectivity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Passengers of the Tube network in London will be able to make calls and go online by mid 2020s.
