The government is now looking into if they should extend the eligibility.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Around 100,000 people every year fall out of work completely after a sickness leave. Out of these people, 44% are off work due to illness for a year and do not go back.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-14081\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/07\/shutterstock_159748715.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"795\" height=\"517\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/07\/shutterstock_159748715.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/07\/shutterstock_159748715-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/07\/shutterstock_159748715-768x499.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 795px) 100vw, 795px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Health Secretary Matt Hancock said:<\/strong> &#8220;We need to remove the barriers that stop people with disabilities or health conditions from reaching their full potential &#8211; these steps will help us achieve that.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For sick pay you have to be classes as an employee and earn at least \u00a3118 per week. You also need to have been ill for four days in a row. Statutory sick pay is \u00a394.95 a week unless your employer has a sick pay scheme you could get more. The maximum amount of time you can claim SSP for is 28 weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Matthew Fell, the CBI\u2019s chief UK policy director, said:<\/strong> \u201cManaging sickness absence effectively and reducing it through proactive health and wellbeing initiatives and policies makes good business sense.
