Cuba is the latest country to suffer the wrath of President Trump, who reintroduced a number of sanctions previously lifted by the Obama administration. Reintroduced in 2017 these sanctions are being blamed by the Cuban government for the introduction of rationing on staple foods such as rice, beans, eggs and sausages.\u00a0Cuba imports around 70% of its food and various agricultural reforms in recent years have failed to boost production sufficiently to make any inroads into this.<\/p>\n

However, the whole blame can’t all be laid on the sanctions, as they are also suffering the knock-on effect of the Venezuela crisis given that Venezuela was a big benefactor of the country, and there are reports of hoarding being rife which is interrupting the supply chain.<\/p>\n
