{"id":109697,"date":"2020-05-14T09:45:18","date_gmt":"2020-05-14T08:45:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/news\/?p=109697"},"modified":"2020-05-14T09:45:35","modified_gmt":"2020-05-14T08:45:35","slug":"uk-authorises-100-accurate-coronavirus-antibody-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/news\/uk-authorises-100-accurate-coronavirus-antibody-test\/","title":{"rendered":"UK Authorises \u201c100% Accurate\u201d Coronavirus Antibody Test"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Public health officials have confirmed that the UK has authorised the use of a Coronavirus antibody test that they found to be 100% accurate.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_108949\" style=\"width: 155px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-108949\" class=\"size-full wp-image-108949\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/05\/145x145_thumb_photo_281011_2cfeefa67.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"145\" height=\"145\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-108949\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The accuracy of the test is an exciting discovery.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The new blood test has gone through rigorous testing by scientists in this country; the antibody test was developed in Sweden.<\/p>\n<p>They found the test was &#8220;highly specific&#8221; and had an accuracy of 100%.<\/p>\n<p>Professor John Newton, a leader in the UK Coronavirus Testing Programme, said: &#8220;This is a very positive development because such a highly specific antibody test is a very reliable marker of past infection.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This in turn may indicate some immunity to future infection although the extent to which the presence of antibodies indicates immunity remains unclear.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Junior health minister Edward Argar said: &#8220;This has the potential to be a game changer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are now moving as fast as we can to discuss with Roche purchasing of those but I can&#8217;t give you an exact date when we&#8217;ll be able to start rolling them out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Now that we\u2019ve got a test, we can further push to go back to work and lead a normal life, as Boris Johnson said in March: &#8220;The great thing about having a test to see whether you&#8217;ve had it enough, is suddenly a green light goes on above your head and you can go back to work safe and confident in the knowledge that you are most unlikely to get it again.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So for an economic point of view, from a social point of view, it really could be a game-changer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Considering current testing abilities only get to show us who have it right now, this is a very exciting discovery, and the accuracy of the test is unmatched, so there are no confusing errors in the results.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Public health officials have confirmed that the UK has authorised the use of a Coronavirus antibody test that they found to be 100% accurate.
