{"id":2698,"date":"2023-04-03T13:43:52","date_gmt":"2023-04-03T13:43:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/food\/?p=2698"},"modified":"2023-04-03T13:43:52","modified_gmt":"2023-04-03T13:43:52","slug":"slow-cooker-beef-stroganoff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiveminutesspare.com\/food\/slow-cooker-beef-stroganoff\/general\/","title":{"rendered":"Slow cooker beef stroganoff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is made possible by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/\">BBC<\/a> Foods!<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"recipe-ingredients__heading gel-double-pica\">Ingredients<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"recipe-ingredients__list\">\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">2 tbsp\u00a0sunflower oil<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">600g\/1lb 5oz stewing or casserole\u00a0steak, cut into chunky strips<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">3 tbsp\u00a0plain flour<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">2\u00a0onions, sliced<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">3\u00a0garlic\u00a0cloves, crushed<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">2\u00a0beef stock\u00a0cubes, crumbled<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">1 tbsp\u00a0Dijon mustard<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">1 tbsp\u00a0Worcestershire sauce<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">25g\/1oz\u00a0butter<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">200g\/7oz\u00a0mushrooms, sliced<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">125ml\/4fl oz\u00a0soured cream<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">handful flatleaf or curly\u00a0parsley, roughly chopped (optional)<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">salt and freshly ground\u00a0black pepper<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-ingredients__list-item\">freshly cooked rice or\u00a0tagliatelle, to serve<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"recipe-method__heading gel-double-pica\">Method<\/h2>\n<ol class=\"recipe-method__list\">\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Brown the steak.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a large frying pan over a medium\u2013high heat and fry the meat in two batches, using the remaining oil to fry the second batch.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">When the chunks are sealed and browned all over, place in a bowl and sprinkle over the flour.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Stir through until the dustiness has disappeared.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Pour 200ml\/7fl oz water into the frying pan and bring to a fierce simmer, using a wooden spoon to scrape up all the meaty bits that are stuck to the bottom until the pan feels clean.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Tip the meaty juices into a jug.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Continue with the recipe if making straightaway or cool and then refrigerate the browned steak and jug of juices overnight if making the next day.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Turn the slow cooker to the high setting. Layer in the onion, garlic and steak, adding any remaining flour or juices from the bowl.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Add the stock cubes, mustard and Worcestershire sauce and season with some black pepper.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Top up the reserved jug of meaty juices to 650ml\/20fl oz using just boiled water.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Pour all over the steak mixture, add the lid and cook on low for 7\u20138 hours until the meat is tender.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Heat the butter in a frying pan over a high heat and fry the mushrooms until softened and golden.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Stir into the stroganoff with the soured cream, turn the slow cooker to high and cook for another 25 minutes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Season with salt and pepper then stir through the parsley, if using, reserving a little to scatter over the top.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"recipe-method__list-item\">\n<p class=\"recipe-method__list-item-text\">Garnish the stroganoff with the reserved parsley and serve with rice or tagliatelle.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em><strong>Banner and Image Credit: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/\">BBC<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is made possible by BBC Foods!
